In recent times, we have witnessed filmgoers record films on their mobile phones and portable tablet devices in theatres, which has been deemed as offensive by many among the film fraternity across the nation as well as by the common folk.

With many lamenting against the act, the Central Government has now given cabinet approval for the amendment of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 as a move to tackle piracy and copyright infringement. The decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made an announcement to curb the menace of camcording and film piracy at the inaugural function of the National Museum of Indian Cinema at Mumbai on January 19, 2019.

An official statement has now been released by the Producers Guild of India and can be seen below as follows on their Twitter page:

Furthermore, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in an official statement said that violators will face up to 3 years jail term or have to pay Rs. 10 Lakhs fine or both, if they are breaching the penal provisions made in the Cinematograph Act, 1952 to prevent unauthorised camcording & duplication of films to digital.
