Vedha Movie review
Vedha narrates the story of two affectionate brothers and the elder brother's sacrifices for his sibling.
Vijay (Arun Vijay) is crazy about his younger brother Vadhan (Jerovadhan) who cannot stomach failurre. Vijay is prepared to go to any lengths to make his brother happy and to see that he gets top position in all his endeavours. Examples are: In a race, he eliminates the accompanying participants by bribing them, thus ensuring his brother's easy victory. Then in a college election, he impersonates the police officer on duty, batters a group of goondas, threatens other candidates and forces them to withdraw, only so that brother gets elected. But by this act, Vijay earns the wrath of the local gangster Sathya (Sathyaprakash).
Meantime, Vijay meets Vedha (Sheila) and after a few meetings, both of them develop an affinity towards each other. Simultaneously, Vijay learns that Vadhan is in love. When Vadhan feels hesitant and unsure of success in his love, Vijay elects to help him, as usual. They visit a mall where predictably, Vadhan introduces Vedha as the light of his life. Hiding his disappointment Vijay congratulates his brother and with his convincing dialogues, persuades Vedha to marry Vadhan. The fairy-tale wedding takes place, but a shocking truth revealed during the wedding night shatters the lives of Vijay, Vedha and Vadhan. What is that secret? What happens next? What are the stratagems the villain adopts to ensure the defeat and elimination of the brothers? See the movie to find out.
Vedha's plot, based on a real-life incident, is very novel to Tamil cinema. The climax too has an unexpected twist. Debutante director Nithyakumar could have highlighted the significance of such a poignant tale with the inclusion of more rational sequences. For Arun Vijay, the dedicated hero, this is yet another different portrayal. He has rendered an appropriate performance as has Shiela. She has improved since her earlier films and displays sex appeal in 'O Rasikkum Seemaney'. Jerovadhan, as the spoilt, eccentric younger brother, has acted in a most natural manner. Erstwhile heroine Seetha appears as a single mother and gives a powerful performance. Karunas-Mayilsami provide the mandatory comedy track. Sathyaprakash as the villain has been given a role with strange pronunciation; this creates less fear and more laughter. Bose Venkat effectively enacts the role of an encounter specialist. The rest of the cast members too have given their best.
Super Subbarayan's stunt choreography, Vijay Gopal and Satonia's camerawork are good. Srikanth Deva's music offers some soothing melodies.
With a little more drama and enthralling charm, Vedha would have been even more appealing.
