Strawberry Movie review
Strawberry is a revenge story of a kid who dies in a heart tearing incident due to the negligence of her school authorities. Actor- lyricist Pa. Vijhay plays a taxi driver in the film who experiences the paranormal activities due to the presence of the dead child. How he helps her in fulfilling her revenge forms the crux of the film.
Though the film is said to be in the horror genre, it is hardly scary but it carries a much needed social message. Pa. Vijhay has delivered an appreciable performance. Despite playing triple roles as the film's director, hero and lyricist, Pa. Vijhay has delivered a neat and clean thriller, which is laudable. Though Strawberry is Vijhay's directorial debut, the film has impressed the audience for its hard-hitting message. Versatile actors Samuthirakani and Devayani walk away with accolades. They trigger off the emotional drama of the film. The duo act as a couple, who lose their only child played by Yuvina Parthavi. The kid who returns as a ghost troubles her killers. Though the first few scenes trigger fear among audiences, later on she turns out to be an adorable ghost to Pa. Vijhay. The cute little Yuvina Parthavi wins the heart of the audience with her innocence.
Joe Malluri has delivered a terrific performance in the film along with Avani Modi who has also performed her part well. The supporting roles played by Robo Shankar and Imman Annachi manage to evoke laughter between the spooks. Cinematographer Maara Varman's angles in combination with Taj Noor's background score produce an eerie effect. Though the songs of the film are pleasing and offere freshness, the background score fails to impress in a few scenes. Strawberry has enough graphics like any other horror film, but sadly the graphics in the film fails to evoke fear in many scenes. If the graphics of the film was better and a little more tauter screenplay, Strawberry would have been one of the best ever made horror films in Kollywood.
Verdict: A horror fantasy with a hard hitting message.
