Rudhramadevi Movie review
Rudhramadevi - India's first historical stereoscopic 3D film, directed by Gunasekhar, narrates the life and times of Rudhramadevi, a popular warrior queen from the Kakatiya dynasty, in the Deccan Plateau. Anushka plays the title role. She has been raised as a male child named Rudhra Deva, by her father due to certain reasons. She is also made to marry Nithya Menen. At one point, the femininity in Anushka falls in love with Rana. After lots of dramatic situations, Anushka's real identity of a woman gets revealed to her Kingdom's public. At the same time, her dynasty's rivals try to invade their kingdom. Will Rudhramadevi defeat her enemies and save the kingdom? Will her identity as a woman be accepted by the people? What will happen to her love life? To know more, watch the film on big screens.
Anushka's performance as a courageous warrior man (disguised) and also a charming young lady princess is laudable. Many a times, the actress look as powerful as a goddess in every inch. Allu Arjun's and Rana Daggubati's performances stand out as usual. Despite having a limited screen space, the two have played remarkable roles in the film. Krishnam Raju's and Prakashraj's characters have also made an impressive mark on the audiences. Limited yet important roles played by Nithya Menen, Hamsa Nandini and Catherine Tresa add glamour to the film. The other supporting artistes have also done their part well.
Director Gunasekhar, has made the right choice of picking Anushka to play the lead role. The director deserves appreciation for the characterization of Rudhramadevi and for the hard work behind the film. Despite being a war film, a message of how women were perceived during the yesteryears is underlined in the story. With that said, being rich in VFX, the major portions of the film fail to impress and could have been executed better. Cinematography by Ajayan Vincent and editing by Sreekar Prasad has helped to maintain the grip of the film. However, the screenplay lags at many points. The other highlight of the film is music legend Ilaiyaraja's composition, which is impressive and soothing. Despite all the flaws, the film stands out for the performances rendered by the biggies in the cast list and for its visual extravaganza!
Verdict: Watchable for its story and Anushka's performance!
