Paasakiligal Movie review
This film has been much awaited, the main reason behind the expectation being the dialogues penned by Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi. He is responsible for the story, screenplay and dialogues. But the outcome is not up to expectations. It is the classic theme about the bond between siblings. However, it has been a well portrayed with a lot of emotion. The dialogues and characters make one wonder if the movie is made for the audience of the 1970’s or the 21st century. The movie has been shot in and around two villages, Aalur and Melur.
Maragatham (Navya Nair) is the sister of Sethupathy (Prabhu) and Sathayya (Murali). Both brothers are so lovable and affectionate towards their sister. Maragatham falls in love with Nallarasu (Vinith), the brother of the chief Vairagya Boopathy (Naseer) of the village Aalur. All goes well until Alakalan enters the scene. Meanwhile Alakalan (Kalabhavan Mani) marries Angayarkanni (Roja), sister of Viragya Boopathy. He enters the family with an bad and underhand motive – that of creating misunderstanding between these two families. He successfully creates a rift between the families of Sethupathy and Vairagya Boopathy. Vairagya Boopathy misunderstands that Sethupathy created this dispute, and ends up committing suicide.
Nallarasu also thinks that Sethupathy was responsible for his brother’s death, plans to take revenge on Sethupathy and with this end in view. marries Maragatham. The rest of the story is all about how Sethupathy and Sathayya settle the misunderstanding and the dispute.
All the people deliver lengthy dialogues, except Navya and Prabhu. Navya has done a really good job. This film is a different one where the sister plays the important role. Navya has given a sober, polished and mature performance. Vadivelu has sprinkled comedy into this film. Vidyasagar’s music is melodious and apt for the sentimental kind of movie. Kalabhavan Mani has done a good job as villain. This film is outdated by just about 30 years.
