Masaani Movie review
Supernatural thrillers are always a craze in Tamil cinema. Over the years we have seen movies like Jaganmohini, Yaar, Va Arigey Va, Arunthadi and the recent Kanchana rocking at the box office, and the latest to join the list is Masaani, which is also considered as a comeback flick for yesteryear hero Ramki. Directed by Padmaraj-LGR, the film also stars Akhil, Iniya, Sija Rose, Sarath Babu and Roja in prominent roles.
The Plot: Happy go lucky Akhil falls in love with Sija Rose, after a series of happenings, she too reciprocates his love. But Akhil has an incomplete past, which now starts haunting him and his father. His past lies in a rural village near Salem where Iniya, a lower cast field worker falls for the Zamindar's (Sarath Babu) younger brother (Ramki). But trouble comes in the form of Zamindar's wife (Roja), who bumps of Ramki and makes pregnant Iniya's life miserable. She gives birth to a baby boy but situation forces to give her baby to a sculpture, who is her only support in the village. Now Akhil is given the responsibility of completing the controversial statue, which is incomplete for years. So who is Akhil? What happened to Iniya? Who is Masani? Watch out...
Director Padmaraj has concentrated more on the myths and beliefs in village with a realistic touch, but he could have concentrated more on the storyline and screenplay also. After a gap, it is interesting to watch Ramki on screens and he has not lost the charm, he gives a stunning performance. Iniya has also done a wonderful job. For the first time, Roja has done a full-fledged negative character and she did it with ease. Akhil is good and Rose doesn't have much to do. Sarath Babu and Y Gee Mahendran have also done their part perfectly. Fazil's music is average.
This one is expected to be a winner at B & C centres.
