Krishnaveni Panjalai Movie review
This movie, directed by debutant Dinesh Padmanabhan, is set in a cotton mill in the 1990s, and showcases the troubles and tribulations of the mill workers. It also brings out the lilting romance between two mill employees. Hemachandran and Nandana are the lead pair.
Kathir (Hemachandran) and Poongodhai (Nandana) work in a Krishnaveni Panjalai, a cotton mill. The owner of the mill, played by Rajiv Krishna, is a noble-hearted man, who is admired by all. Rajiv helps Poongodhai's sister in her love and, gets her married to her lover against all odds. It is at this point that tragedy strikes. The newly-married couple are found dead. But they are soon found dead. Poongothai, who falls for Kathir, is now afraid to move on with their relationship, following the tragedy. Adding to all this mayhem, the mill is forced to face a lock-out, following a workers strike. What ensues, makes the rest of the movie.
Hemachandran carries the movie on his shoulders. Cute Nandhana has given her best. The on-screen chemistry between the lead pair is good. The presence of veterans like Bala Singh, Thennavan and M S Bhaskar is a positive, as they add to the weight of the movie, with their performances. Rajeev Krishna deserves a special mention for his stellar performance.
Raghunandan has scored the music, and he has done his reputation a world of good, with his work. The lilting melodies remain in our hearts, even well after the movie is over. The cinematography by Suresh Bhargav is amazing. A tighter script would have ensured that the viewer doesn't lose focus of what the basic plot of the movie is.
Krishnaveni Panjaalai is definitely worth a watch!
