Isai Movie review
SJ Suryah is back to wielding the megaphone with Isai, which stars himself and Savithri in the lead and Sathyaraj in a pivotal role. Another interesting aspect of this movie is that SJ Suryah is debuting as a music director too. Isai is interestingly touted to be from a new genre called musical thriller.
The movie opens similar to SJ Suryah's Kushi, with a voice over clearly narrating what the movie is going to be all about. Vetriselvan is a very popular and accomplished music director who is nearing the twilight of his career. His assistant is AK Shiva (SJ Suryah). When Vetriselvan refuses to compose music for a director, the director approaches Shiva and he also agrees. The album turns a major hit and Shiva becomes the latest sensation of the town. However, this does not augur well with Vetriselvan and he becomes highly jealous of Shiva. Shiva decides to make an album capturing the sounds of nature and goes to a village for this. Here he comes across the innocent and beautiful Savithri and falls for her. Meanwhile, Vetriselvan's jealousy keeps growing with the rise in Shiva's popularity and he begins to create various problems for Shiva. Things begin getting out of hand and Shiva goes to the point of being hospitalised. Why is he hospitalised? What happens between Shiva and Vetriselvan? Watch Isai on the big screens to know...
Having taken on the responsibility for three departments, SJ Suryah has excelled in all three. Direction being his forte, SJ Suryah has taken extra care to chisel out the characters and get the best out of his actors. As an actor, he has given it his all and brought in the quirkiness that is unique to him. Savithri has made an impressive debut and her role is important to the crux of the movie. Sathyaraj has gone back to being a baddie and it looks like he enjoyed being evil, for he has given a brilliant performance. The rest of the cast have also chipped in with good portrayals. SJ Suryah the music director has had a very good debut too. All three songs are hum-worthy and remain on the minds even after the movie is over. Soundarrajan's camera has captured some impressive visuals and the art work in the movie also needs a special mention. The length and predictability are some minor letdowns but the way the movie keeps moving forward keeps the viewers engrossed.
Isai is an out and out SJ Suryah entertainer. Entertainment guaranteed!
