Goli Soda Movie review
Cinematographer Vijay Milton makes his directorial debut with Goli Soda. He has also scripted the movie, while director Pandiraj has penned the dialogues. The story revolves around four homeless young men and their struggle to make an identity for themselves. Starring Sree Raam (Settu), Kishore (Pulli), Pandi (Chittappa) and Murugesh (Kutti Mani), the movie boasts of several young and fresh faces.
Four young guys (among thousands of others) who are labourers at the Koyambedu vegetable market have always been non-entities and want to change that and get an identity for themselves. They look to realise this dream by starting a hotel inside the market itself. Their struggle pays off when they, with the help of the kindly Aachi (Jayanthi), start an eatery - Aachi Mess. They rent out a shop from Naidu (a ruthless moneylender controlling all the shops in Koyambedu). Everything seems to be going well for the boys. Work-wise they have their shop and personally, love is in the air. One of the boys is in love with Aachi's daughter Yamini (Chandini) and another one with her friend ATM (Seethe). But, suddenly everything spirals out of hand. Naidu's brother-in-law and enforcer Mayil (RK. Vijaimurugan) misuses their hotel by using it for drinking and other immoral activities. Chittappa gets into an argument with him. This leads to a tussle and the result is that the hotel is forced shut. Aachi takes up the issue with Naidu. But things continue to go out of hand. What happens to the four boys? What of their love? After ending up at four different parts of the country, all broken and battered, what next for them? Watch Goli Soda on the big screens to know!
Vijay Milton, after years of being the ship's captain's first mate, has tried his hand at playing both the captain and the first mate. The strong, bold and simple concept in itself evolving into a feature film, is proof of the confidence the makers have in their script. The movie has an interesting concept and the commendable performance from the teenagers takes it to a totally different plane altogether. The trailer created a lot of buzz and the movie does justice to all the hype that was generated around it and more. Pandiraj has proven that he excels at whatever he does, and his powerful dialogues stand testimony to that.
The boys who carried Pasanga on their shoulders carry off Goli Soda with aplomb! With Thirrupathi Brothers on board, this Rough Note Productions, is sure to go a long way at the box office. Vijay Milton as a cinematographer has showcased his class in all his projects till date, and shows that the weight of direction does not hassle the cinematographer in him, with almost all the scenes being shot in the highly crowded Koyambedu market proving it. SN Arunagiri's music is good, and the editing adds to the crispness. Each and every character in the movie stands out with excellent performances, and the cameos by Powerstar Dr. Srinivasan and Sam Anderson make for some fun viewing. Though a few portions defy logic, the performances of the leads ensure that movie rolls forward smoothly.
Head over to watch Goli Soda for an enjoyable and gripping time at the theatres.
