Ellam Avan Seyal Movie review
Ellam Avan Seyal is the Tamil remake of the successful Malayalam film Chinthamani Kola Case. Without losing the thrill and action woven in the original, the remake has turned out to be a fitting remake.
R. Kay (L.K.) is a brilliant, prominent and highly-successful lawyer who takes up the cases of rich persons who are guilty of the crimes charged. He invariably snatches victory from the jaws of defeat for his moneyed clients. However, after the court has exonerated his clients, R. Kay eliminates them in his own pitiless way.
Though R. Kay's attitude would appear weird to others, he has a logic to justify his actions. In a flashback, we see his father, also a leading lawyer, getting his guilty client set free and then being murdered brutally by the same client. Upset by the tragedy, R. Kay begins to enforce his punishment to criminals who, by using their powerful and strong contacts with the assistance of crooked lawyers, might otherwise escape the hands of the law.
R. Kay gets a request from the parents of nine college girls who have been accused in the murder of their classmate Chinthamani (Bhama). Taking up the case, R. Kay begins his investigation by meeting Chinthamani's father Veeramani (Manivannan). He then unearths the truth through step-by-step probing. How he goes about the whole investigation and how he traps the true criminals is shown in the portion leading to the climax. Finally he tears the masks of many bigwigs including the college correspondent (Manoj K. Jayan).
Newcomer L.K. has played the part of the notorious lawyer. He has offered a laudable performance that is almost equal to the performance by Suresh Gopi in the original, indeed an achievement in his debut. Also, there is a galaxy of supporting artists who have played significant roles in the film. Roja appears as R. Kay's junior. Vadivelu, as another assistant to R. Kay, contributes the comedy track. Raghuvaran is the C.I.D officer in charge of investigating the murder. Nasser is the Inspector of Police who assists him in the case. Ashish Vidyarthi appears as the Public Prosecuter. Visu, Manivannan and many more join the performing band.
The court scenes are indeed shown in a detailed and interesting manner. The fiery and clever arguments pique and enthrall all kinds of audiences. To a considerable extent, they even camouflage the predominant Malayalam flavour in the whole presentation. Vidyasagar's music and Kanal Kannan's stunts are the other highlights of the film.
