Chandra Movie review
Chandra is a romantic fantasy flick, made as a Tamil - Kannada bilingual, by the acclaimed director Roopa Iyer. The Kannada version was released in 2013 itself, while the Tamil version is having a delayed release. Shriya Saran is making a comeback of sorts to Kollywood, with this movie.
Chandra is set in the post-Independence era, where the concept of Kingdoms and Kings has been removed. However, some royal families still hold on to their traditions, customs and beliefs. Chandra (Shriya) is a princess from one such family. Chandrahasa (Prem Kumar) is a properly and traditionally trained Ayurvedha doctor, who is also well versed in martial arts forms and music. Princess Chandra's music teacher is Chandrahasa's father. The two Chandra's meet and fall in love. However, the princess' family comes to know of this, and except Chandra's brother Vivek, all are against their love. They plan to get the princess married off to a foreign groom - Arya (Ganesh Venkatraman). Arya takes away Chandra to the USA, and there is no connection between the lovers... Will love overcome all trials? Will the two young one's get to unite? What mean twist has fate in store for the couple? Watch Chandra on the big screens to know.
The lead actors - Shriya, Prem Kumar and Ganesh Venkatraman are very good in their roles. Comedian Vivek as the helpful and understanding brother, takes the cake with his performance. Director Roopa Iyer's plot is interesting, but fails to catch the fancy of the Tamil audiences. Cinematography and music are good. The costume designer needs a special mention for the good work. Though the movie is technically very good, it falls a little flat on the appeal quotient.
Check out Chandra, if period romance is your taste.
