Tamil actor-producer Vishnu Vishal dropped a surprise update for fans on Monday evening informing that his much-awaited film, FIR, produced under his Vishnu Vishal Studioz banner will open in theatres on February 11, 2022. Directed by Manu Anand, a former associate of Gautam Vasudev Menon, the upcoming action thriller also starring Manjima Mohan, Raiza Wilson and Reba Monica John will be released by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies banner. The FIR release date announcement has come at a time when the number of Covid-19 cases and the spread of the Omicron variant is on a steady decline and this latest update from Vishal Vishal will no doubt come as a joyous news for fans and a relief for theatre owners, who will be looking for audiences to throng into cinema halls once again.

For a while, there were rumors that FIR would be heading for a direct OTT release on a leading streaming platform due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, all such talks have now been laid to rest with Vishnu Vishal's latest announcement asserting that the film will not be changed from its earlier theatrical release plan. In Vishnu Vishal's FIR, Manjima Mohan is said to be playing the female lead, while Raiza Wilson, Reba Monica John and filmmaker Gautham Menon have been cast in important supporting roles. The film is said to follow Abu Bakker Abdulla, played by Vishnu, a Muslim youth who becomes a fugitive in the eyes of the law, and is  being chased by Gautam Menon playing the role of a cop. FIR has Ashwath as the music director, while Kirumi-fame Arul Vincent is the cinematographer and editing is done by Prasanna GK. Vishnu Vishal was last seen in Kaadan and will be looking forward to kick-start 2022 on a great note with his FIR.
