A collaboration that created instant excitement among Tamil cinema fans was when it was announced that National Award-winning actor Vikram would be joining hands with ace filmmaker Pa. Ranjith for the tentatively titled Chiyaan 61. Being produced by K. E. Gnanavelraja's Studio Green and Ranjith's Neelam Productions banners, the upcoming film is described to be a period venture set at KGF (Kolar Gold Field mines). With production yet to kick off, Pa. Ranjith has now dropped a massive update informing fans that the much-awaited Chiyaan 61 title announcement will be made on Sunday, October 23, at 8 p.m. ahead of the Diwali celebrations. 

An intense poster for Chiyaan 61 featuring Vikram's back to the viewers has also been released by Pa. Ranjith on Twitter, which shows the actor in the backdrop of a coal mine, while a donkey is also partially visible. The film will also mark the first time Ranjith will be working with composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, who recently won the National Award for Best Background Score in Suriya's Soorarai Pottru. Announced to be made on a grand scale and in 3D, Vikram’s Chiyaan 61 has generated tremendous expectations as its story has been revealed to be based on real-life incidents that took place at KGF during the pre-Independence period when the British ruled India. Vikram's Chiyaan 61 has no female lead as yet and an official announcement is expected to be made as well, with Maryan actress Parvathy Thiruvothu and Master heroine Malavika Mohanan's names doing the rounds for the coveted role. The film has a highly-skilled technical crew on board among whom include Tamizh Prabha, who is the co-writer, while Kishor Kumar and Selva RK are handling the cinematography and editing, respectively, followed by art director SS Moorthy and costume designer Aegan Ekambaram.
