Released as a grand Pongal treat, the family entertainer has been highly anticipated by fans, who have also been keeping tabs on another big upcoming Vijay film, the tentatively titled Thalapathy 67, which marks the actor's reunion with blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj after their 2021 box office money-spinner, Master. Lokesh, who took part in an event in Coimbatore on Thursday, January 12, was queried once again by media persons regarding Thalapathy 67, including the film's much-awaited first update, which he revealed will be announced in the next 10 days.

Lokesh Kanagaraj said, "We did not drop any updates since Varisu was awaiting its release. Since the film is now out, we can expect an announcement (about Thalapathy 67) in the next 10 days. There will be no promo, but an update can be expected in 10 days. There will be regular updates going forward." Upon being asked whether Thalapathy 67 will be releasing this Diwali or as a Pongal 2024 treat, the hit director added, "Those details have not been decided as yet as the shooting is currently underway." These latest words by Lokesh Kanagaraj have set fans speculating on social media that the Thalapathy 67 update will be out most likely on Republic Day on January 26.
Expectations for Thalapathy 67 have been massive ever since it was revealed that Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj were teaming up once again. The revelation that the film is going to be an out-and-out gangster flick has left fans mighty excited, with Trisha Krishnan, Gautham Menon, and Mansoor Ali Khan also confirmed to be a part of the project, while Rathna Kumar is penning the dialogues.
