Actor Vijay's next, the tentatively titled Thalapathy 66, rolled into production a few days back after it was launched in Chennai with a grand pooja. Being directed by Vamshi Paidipally under Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations banner, the upcoming film has national sensation Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead and includes music by chart-buster South Indian composer Thaman. S. Thalapathy 66 is the first occasion Thaman is composing songs and the background score for a Vijay film and the music director took to social media on Wednesday to share an update from the film revealing that the composition works have commenced, while also posting a photo with director Vamshi.

Thaman has expressed his desire to work with Vijay many times over the years and the composer's dream has now finally come true with Thalapathy 66 after being a part of several blockbusters in Telugu starring leading superstars. Fans expect the hit composer to consistently keep them updated on the developments in the upcoming Vijay-starrer as he has done over the years with each of the ventures he has been a part of. Thalapathy 66 is touted to be a family-centric story along the lines of Vijay's Poove Unakkaga and Thulladha Manamum Thullum and one can expect Thaman to come out with all guns blazing in delivering a packed album appealing to audiences of all ages.

Thalapathy 66 is incidentally the first time Rashmika is paired opposite Vijay and their on-screen chemistry is already being billed to be one of the biggest USPs of the film, which also includes veteran actor Sarathkumar in a pivotal role. As of now, the rest of the cast is yet to be revealed, with the technical team roped in featuring names like cinematographer Karthick Palani, editor Praveen KL, dialogues and additional screenplay written by Vivek and costume design by Deepali Noor.
