The release of the Thalapathy 66 first look on the eve of Vijay's birthday will no doubt be one of the most-awaited events of the day on June 21 as it has been every year when the actor's previous films too had their promotions receive a thunderous response from fans. The upcoming film will see Vijay paired opposite national sensation Rashmika Mandanna for the first time and has the stars sharing the screen alongside an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Jayasudha, Yogi Babu, Shaam, actress Sangeetha Krish, and Bigg Boss 4 fame Samyuktha Shanmughanathan among others in pivotal roles.

Thalapathy 66 has been announced to be a family entertainer along the lines of Vijay's Poove Unakkaga and Thulladha Manamum Thullum and will be a step away from the actor's action films over the past few years. The film has a highly-talented technical team on board that includes composer Thaman. S., cinematographer Karthick Palani, editor Praveen KL, with the VFX being done by Yugandhar, followed by Deepali Noor for the costume designs, and Sunil Babu and Vaishnavi Reddy overseeing the production design. Furthermore, Thalapathy 66's story and screenplay are written by Vamshi Paidipally, Hari, and Ashishor Solomon, while the film will have dialogues, additional screenplay and lyrics penned by  Vivek.
