Tamil film producer and actor RK Suresh has announced that the 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Maamanithan directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy and featuring music by 'Maestro' Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja will be hitting screens worldwide this May. He further added that he has bagged the upcoming action drama film's Tamil Nadu and Kerala theatrical rights under his Studio 9 banner and is incidentally his second time collaborating with Vijay Sethupathi after he previously produced the National Award-winning actor's box office blockbuster Dharma Durai in 2016. Produced under Yuvan Shankar Raja's YSR Films banner, production on Maamanithan wrapped up a long time back, with the film also being censored with a 'U' certificate. This latest Maamanithan release update will no doubt come as a big sigh of relief for Vijay Sethupathi's fans after there were rumors stating that the film could be headed for a direct OTT premiere. The first-time collaboration of Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja for the music of the film has also created a lot of buzz right from the moment it was announced, with the two songs, 'Thattiputta' and 'Ye Rasa', released so far receiving a largely positive response. Furthermore, Maamanithan is also the fourth time Seenu Ramasamy and Vijay Sethupathi have come together and there is plenty of excitement that the duo could once again produce a memorable film on the lines of Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010) and Dharma Durai (2016), with their long-delayed Idam Porul Yaeval yet to release.

RK Suresh, who has already watched Maamanithan, has showered praises on Vijay Sethupathi and Guru Somasundaram for their power-packed performances in the film, which also features Gayathrie Shankar as the female lead, followed by the late K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Viswasam fame Anikha Surendran, Malayalam actor Shaji Chen among others in pivotal roles.
