An awards ceremony that continues to be the talk of the town, The Galatta Crown 2022, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on May 8, 2022, witnessed the biggest names in the entertainment industry from across the country. Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh delighted fans at the biggest digital awards ceremony of 2022, which also saw several top names from Tamil cinema grace the evening among whom were 'Lady Superstar' Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Sivakarthikeyan, Boney Kapoor, Keerthy Suresh, Anirudh Ravichander, Nelson Dilipkumar, Arya, Sayyeshaa, Priyanka Mohan, Venkat Prabhu, SJ Suryah, Pa Ranjith, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Krithi Shetty, to name a notable few. 

A major highlight at The Galatta Crown 2022 was popular names in Tamil cinema being celebrated for their talents and skills and that also included noteworthy lyricists being honored for their work in Tamil films in 2021-2022, with one name walking home with the deserving award. The nominees for the Best Lyricist (2021-2022) include: 

Sivakarthikeyan - 'Chellamma' (Doctor)
Vignesh Shivan - 'Naan Pizhai' (Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal)
Raju Murugan - 'Thala Kothum' (Jai Bhim)
Karthick Netha - 'Idhuvum Kadandhu Pogum' (Netrikann)
Yugabharathi - 'Mannile Eeram Undu' (Jai Bhim)

The winner of the Best Lyricist (2021-2022) was declared to be none other than filmmaker and songwriter Vignesh Shivan, who won it for his lyrics in the 'Naan Pizhai' song from Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, which as well was directed by the Naanum Rowdydhaan director and featured music by Anirudh Ravichander, with 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha headlining the star cast. Vignesh Shivan, who received the award for Best Lyricist (2021-2022) from Anirudh and director Nelson Dilipkumar, extended his gratitude to Galatta Media's Managing Director Aruna Krishnan, while also thanking fans for their support. During his acceptance speech, he was queried about singing a song to which he replied stating that the songs he has written have all been for Nayanthara, while gesturing toward the leading South Indian actress. Furthermore, Vignesh Shivan revealed, "I started writing lyrics when I didn't have any work in the beginning and I used to ask Anirudh for songs to write. Any award I win for lyrics will be dedicated to Anirudh as he was the one who first told me to start writing."
