Acclaimed film writer and journalist, Jay Prakash Chowksey, best known as JP Chowksey, recently passed away at the age of 83. He was the father of notable filmmaker Aditya Chowksey. According to reports, JP Chowksey had been diagnosed with cancer a few years back and had also made a recovery. However, the deadly cancer cells re-emerged and his life was never the same. It claimed his life and left those close to him mourning and in a difficult state of acceptance. He is now survived by his wife and two sons.

JP Chowksey is hailed by many as a talented film writer, a renowned columnist, and an author of a number of books. During the early stages of his career, he was a professor in a Gujarati College in Indore where he taught Hindi. He wrote screenplays for many notable films and even distributed over a hundred films that included Raj Kapoor’s Prem Rog, Qatl, Henna, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, J.P. Dutta’s Border, Rakesh Roshan’s Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, Gulzar’s Maachis, and many more. The adapted screenplay for the Salman Khan-starrer Bodyguard was also co-written by him. Regarded by many as a warm and helpful person, JP Chowksey was respectfully called Chowksey Sahab in the industry circles and also served as the President of the Central Circuit Cine Association (CCCA) for a few years. He was a columnist whose regular column, Parde Ke Peechhe, appeared for 27 years in the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper. Weirdly, he wrote his last column, bidding his readers goodbye, on 25th February 2022, just five days before he bid goodbye to the world.
