Veruthe Oru Bharya in Tamil

Last year's Malayalam blockbuster Veruthe Oru Bharya, directed by Akku Akbar, starring Jayaram and Gopika in the lead, is all set to be remade in Tamil under the direction of Thangar Bachan. The director recently cameto Kochi for a discussion with Malayalam producer Salavuddin, who is likely to produce the Tamil version as well.

Thangar Bachan saidJayaram would not be the hero in the Tamil version since he has no dates. Instead, Kishore will be the hero. The heroine will be either Priyanka or Sneha. Nivedita, who acted as Jayaram's daughterin the Malayalam version, will reprise the same role in Tamil. More details are awaited.

Veruthe Oru Bharya revolves around a few lives – Sugunan (Jayaram), an employee of the Electricity Board withold-fashioned notions of what a wife should do and how she should behave, his wife Bindu (Gopika) and their teenage daughter Anju (Nivedita), Sugunan's colleagues and Bindu's family, comprising her parents and her brother Ramesh (Madhu Warrier).

Sugunan is a typical egoistic person, the ever-complaining husband who considers Bindhu as just a person who is obliged to meet all the pressures in managing home affairs. As household chores occupy all her time, Bindu does not get any leisure to enjoy with her friends or relatives or attend public functions. And she has to deal with her teenaged daughter Anju's growing demands. Sugunan neither acknowledges his wife's efforts nor does he help her.

As the story proceeds, Bindu reaches her breaking point and declares that she is taking voluntary retirement from being a housewife. She returns to her father (Innocent), leaving her husband to take care of their daughter. Sugunan takesthis as another chanceto fight with her and tries to manage things on his own, but in vain. The second half of the movie takes a different route, showing the difficulties faced by a father in single-handedly bringing up his daughter.

For her outstanding performance in Veruthe Oru Bharya, Gopika recently won the best actress award in Asianet Film Awards 2009. Akku Akbar won the award forbest director, while Jayaram was selected the most popular actor. A comeback film for Jayaram after nearly five years of continuous struggle to keep his position in Malayalam films, Veruthe Oru Bharya recently celebrated its 125h day at theatres. Let's wait and see how the Tamil version of much-acclaimed Veruthe Oru Bharyalooks like!
