The Mission Impossible (MI) franchise has proven to be a goldmine for Paramount Pictures ever since the film came out in 1996. The Tom Cruise-starrer has been one of the longest-running franchises of all time and with it comes immense success as each installment has gotten bigger and better all the while outperforming its previous sequels. 2018’s Mission: Impossible: Fallout, the last film to be released in the franchise, turned out to be the highest-grossing film of the entire action spy film series. Having said that, there have been a few issues regarding the release of Mission Impossible 7 as Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures are reportedly in a tussle due to creative differences. The Hollywood superstar who has portrayed Ethan Hunt since the first installment is seeing the end of his missions as Mission: Impossible 8 seems to be the final installment of the franchise.

Tom Cruise is reportedly in the midst of a battle with Paramount regarding the theatrical window for Mission: Impossible 7. It is being stated that Cruise had called in his lawyers to discuss the decision to release M: I 7 on the Paramount+ OTT platform to stream the film just 45 days after its theatrical release, which is said to have caused tensions between the two. The issue had arisen as Mission: Impossible 7 was still in production, but it remains unsolved as both parties reportedly agreed to postpone it until the film was finished. Cruise, however, keeps holding out the completion of the film until he hammers out a great deal for Mission: Impossible 8, U.S. media reports further state.

A source from Paramount Pictures revealed that "For Tom Cruise, 45 days is like going day-and-date. He also felt that setting a date when the movie could be seen on the service would discourage people from going to the theatre." Mission: Impossible 7 has been delayed several times as the film was initially scheduled for a release on July 23, 2021, but has since been pushed all the way to July 14, 2023. As for Mission: Impossible 8, the film has also been pushed from July 2023 to June 28, 2024.
