The Elephant Whisperers made history as it won the prestigious Academy Awards in the Best Documentary Short Film category. The director of the documentary film Kartiki Gonsalves and the producer Guneet Monga received the award at the event. The film was based on an indigenous couple taking care of orphaned elephants in the Mudumalai Reserve. The documentary captured the relations of the couple Booman and Bellie who are assigned to take care of the orphaned elephant calves Raghu and Ammu. It follows the daily activities of the couple and the care and bond that they have with the two elephant calves. The documentary is currently streaming on Netflix.
After the Oscar win, the director Kartiki Gonsalves recently posted that she arrived at her hometown in Tamil Nadu and shared a picture of the indigenous couple holding the Oscars, the picture won hearts. Now, the director and producer duo have met the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The official Twitter handle of the PM tweeted two photos featuring the Producer Guneet Monga and director of The Elephant Whisperers Kartiki Gonsalves with Narendra Modi, holding the two Oscar awards. The PM wrote "The cinematic brilliance and success of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ has drawn global attention as well as acclaim. Today, I had the opportunity to meet the brilliant team associated with it. They have made India very Proud”.

Their tweet has become viral instantly and The director Kartiki Gonsalves of the film released the tweet saying thanks. The director of The Elephant Whisperers also tweeted the photo and said she was grateful to meet the honourable Prime Minister. India made history in the Oscars this year as it won awards in two categories with Naatu Naatu song from RRR winning the Best Original Song category.
