Tamil actor-comedian Mayilsamy passed away in Chennai on Sunday, February 19. He was 57. The veteran actor and character artist, who appeared in many Tamil movies, passed away today at around 3:30 AM due to a cardiac arrest. He was taken to the Ramachandra Hospital, Porur, after he first suffered a cardiac arrest. When the hospital's doctors examined him, they discovered that he had passed away. Mayilsamy's body was then transported by ambulance to his residence in Saligramam for the film fraternity, family members, and close friends to pay their respects. According to reports, the actor's funeral proceedings will be held tomorrow. The news of Mayilsamy's demise has left the Tamil film industry and fans in a state of complete shock. Many public figures and celebrities, including Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin, visited comedian's residence to pay their respects to the late actor's body.

A video of Drums Sivamani and late actor Mayilsamy in a temple during last night's Sivarathri celebrations is circulating on social media, as it was taken just hours before his death. Various film personalities, including Kamal Haasan, Sarath Kumar, Yogi Babu, Manobala, Vikram, and so on, have shared their grievances about the actor's death. In accordance, actor Kamal Haasan wrote, "Dear friend Mayilsamy saw success in presenting his own style of comedy acting. He will be remembered by many for his helping attitude. Homage to my dear friend #Mayilsamy." 

Mayilsamy was born on October 2, 1957, at Sathyamangalam. He made his debut as a crowd artist in K, Bhagyaraj's Dhavani Kanavugal. He then acted in various films as a character artist and as a comedian gaining popularity. Some of his notable appearances include Ghilli, Dhool, Uthama Puthiran, Veeram, Kanchana, and Giri. Mayilsamy also won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Comedian for his role in Kangalal Kaidhu Sei. He was also a well-known stand-up comedian, TV host, stage performer, and theatre artist. In addition, he frequently presided over as a guest judge on Sun TV's Asatha Povathu Yaaru. Most recently, he appeared in films like Nenjuku Needhi, Veetla Vishesham, and The Legend.
