It's official - 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's next big film, the tentatively titled Thalaivar 170, has been announced by blockbuster banner Lyca Productions on Wednesday, March 2. The announcement from the production-distribution banner has come on the occasion of Lyca Chairman Subaskaran Allirajah's birthday today and the upcoming project will begin shooting soon under Jai Bhim fame T. J. Gnanavel's direction. Announced to open in cinemas in 2024, Thalaivar 170 will feature music by Anirudh Ravichander and roll into production under the leadership of GKM Tamil Kumaran, Lyca Productions has revealed.
Lyca Productions' official statement is as follows: "Today on the ocassion of our beloved "Chairman" Subaskaran's birthday, Lyca Productions is feeling acclaimed & honoured in announcing "Superstar" Rajinikanth's "#Thalaivar170" film under our banner. This film will be directed by TJ Gnanavel, will have music by "Rockstar" Anirudh and produced by Subaskaran. We are further happy to inform that the shoot of the film will commence soon under the leadership of GKM Tamil Kumaran and will be ready for release in 2024. Thalaivar 170 is the third time Lyca Productions is collaborating with Rajinikanth after they previously produced the 2018 sci-fi superhero film, 2.0 directed by Shankar and the 2020 action thriller Darbar under A. R. Murugadoss' direction. The film also marks the fourth time 'Rockstar' Anirudh is composing the songs and the background for the iconic actor's venture after Petta, Darbar, and the upcoming Jailer. It is to be noted that Rajinikanth will be appearing in an extended cameo in his daughter Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's Lal Salaam, which as well is being produced by Lyca Productions. T. J. Gnanavel's name has been associated with Thalaivar 170 for quite sometime now and it will be interesting to see Rajinikanth teaming up with the filmmaker for the first time after he delivered one of the biggest streaming successes with Jai Bhim starring Suriya in 2021.
