'Superstar' Rajinikanth surprised fans gathered outside his Poes Garden residence in Chennai on the auspicious occasion of Diwali on Monday, October 24. The actor appeared in person and conveyed his Diwali wishes to fans and media persons who were waiting for the Indian cinema icon since morning today. Rajinikanth appeared in his trademark white kurta and dhoti, with the atmosphere outside his residence turning into a place of wild celebrations. Videos and photos of the actor greeting fans are now doing the rounds and have once again taken social media by storm. 

Rajinikanth has been meeting and wishing his fans Diwali for many years now and the latest video once again shows the massive popularity he continues to enjoy among audiences of all ages. The actor's last major public appearance was during the Ponniyin Selvan: 1 audio launch in September along with 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan where the duo shared their working experience with filmmaker Mani Ratnam, who directed their cult classic box office blockbusters Thalapathi and Nayakan. Rajinikanth, who has been a box office icon for nearly five decades, delighting fans at the PS: 1 audio launch with his speech, which received a huge response from the film’s star cast and fans at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Rajinikanth, who was last seen in Annaatthe, is currently working on his next big film, Jailer, being produced by Sun Pictures, which will be hitting screens worldwide in 2023. Touted to be a mass masala action entertainer, the film is being directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and also stars Ramya Krishnan, Taramani and Rocky fame Vasanth Ravi, comedian Yogi Babu and Malayalam actor Vinayagan. Jailer marks the third time 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander is composing music for a 'Superstar' venture for the third time after delivering chart-busters in Petta (2019) and Darbar (2020). The upcoming venture is a big film as both Rajinikanth and director Nelson will want to hit the bullseye considering their Annaatthe (2021) and Beast (2022) earned mixed reviews despite turning out to be highly profitable at the box office. Likewise, Jailer also marks the first time after two decades that Rajinikanth and Ramya Krishnan will be sharing screen space with each other after their Padayappa, which went on to become the most celebrated film in 1999.
