Netflix's Stranger Things Season 5 is officially up and running. The Twitter handle of stranger writers, which is the official page of the writers' team, shared the official announcement of this with the caption 'Day 1' and an image of a whiteboard with STRANGER THINGS 5 on it marking the start of the script writing of the final season of the '80s horror series. Back in February, right before the premiere of Season 4 of the series, showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed that Season 5 would be the last and final season of Netflix’s retro horror-thriller series.

While this Stranger Things arc is nearing its end, there’s plenty more to come in the series’ universe. “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” they wrote. “But first we hope you stay with us as we finish this tale”, said the brothers.

Season 4 saw the heroes face off against Vecna / 001 / Henry Creel, a powerful enemy who has a complicated relationship with Eleven and Dr. Martin Brenner. The decisive battle proved to be a humdinger and will carry over into season 5. Ahead of the premiere of Volume 2, the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer hinted at a time jump, and the strong desire to stick the landing after four blockbuster seasons.

They said, "Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different”, Matt Duffer continued. “I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer, it’s going to be ‘Return of the King’-ish with, like, eight endings.”

Meanwhile, the fourth season of Stranger Things counted 1.35 billion hours viewed on Netflix in its first 28 days. That’s the most ever for an English-language show on the streaming platform. The No. 1 overall spot is still held by the Korean series Squid Game with 1.65 billion hours in its first 28 days.
