Silambarasan TR has been on a roll having back-to-back box office blockbusters in the last two years with Maanaadu in 2021 and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu in 2022 and will be looking to make it a hat-trick with his next, the highly-anticipated Pathu Thala. Directed by Sillunu Oru Kaadhal fame Obeli N. Krishna, the gangster drama is produced by K. E. Gnanavelraja's Studio Green banner and will be presented by Jayantilal Gada's Pen Studios featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer A. Rahman. With production wrapped sometime back and dubbing currently underway, the makers have now shared a big update informing that the much-awaited new Pathu Thala release date will be announced on Saturday, December 31, at 11 a.m. as a special New Year's treat for Simbu's fans. 

Studio Green surprised fans on Friday by dropping the big update for the Pathu Thala release date plans and STR's fans will no doubt be in full attendance to know when the film will be coming out in theatres in 2023. This latest announcement from the film's team will come as a big relief to the star's fans after the film's release was postponed after the initial plan was to bring it out in cinemas a couple of weeks back on December 14. For a while now, there have been several rumors doing the rounds regarding the Pathu Thalarelease date, with some reports stating the film is heading to the big screen in March 2023 and the official announcement coming out tomorrow will finally bring an end to the speculations as well the wait for Simbu's fans. Pathu Thala has Silambarasan playing the role of a don named of AGR, with the story set in locations in and around the Kanyakumari district. The upcoming film is said to be a remake of the 2017 Kannada blockbuster, Mufti, directed by Narthan, and will see Simbu essaying superstar Dr. Shivarajkumar's character, while Gautham Karthik is playing the role of an undercover police officer portrayed by Srimurali. Pathu Thala also includes an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Priya Bhavani Shankar as the female lead, followed by filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon as the antagonist, with Kalaiyarasan, Asuran fame Teejay Arunasalam, poet Manushyaputhiran, Doctor star Reddin Kingsley, Malayalam actress Anu Sithara, and popular child artiste Manasvi Kottachi of Imaikkaa Nodigal and Maamanithan fame appearing in pivotal roles.
