Shamshera is an upcoming Hindi period film directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor in leading roles. Shamshera is the first film featuring Ranbir Kapoor in a double role as both the father and son - Shamshera and Balli respectively; Sanjay Dutt plays the main antagonist yet again after the menacing Adheera in KGF: Chapter 2; with Vaani Kapoor portraying a dancer.

The makers of the film have been regularly giving updates on the film and dropping little clips here and there to keep the fans and audiences on their feet until Shamshera officially hits the screens. This is done to pique their interest and keep them hooked so that they cant attract large groups of people. They recently dropped a new video titled 'Sanjay Dutt VS Ranbir Kapoor' which features the director and both our protagonist as well as antagonist talking about their experience shooting the film.

In the BTS video, Ranbir and Dutt discuss how difficult it was for them to fight each other since they share a completely different equation in real life. Director Karan Malhotra also shared that the duo used to get concerned about the fight scenes. He said Sanjay used to be more cautious while dealing with Ranbir in action scenes because he treats the actor like his son. Karan said, "He would keep saying, He might get hurt if I do this". Karan added that even Ranbir used to be apprehensive about the action scenes, and would tell him, "He is Sanjay Dutt, how will I do this?".

Sanjay admitted that he hesitated at times, and explained, "I had a relationship with Ranbir when he was a very small child and he was growing up. Even for me to fight with him, I used to get very concerned". While Ranbir said, "I have grown up at the age of 9 and 10 with a Sanjay Dutt poster in my cupboard, then getting to play him in a biopic, and finally for him to be the merciless menace-- Shuddh Singh. What he was on camera was so ruthless, I have never gotten hit so much in my life". "It’s amazing that he is my antagonist! He hits me and I have to hit him on screen. Because that's not what I feel for him. I see Sanjay Dutt, the kind of personality and aura he has, you just want to hug him and talk to him", Ranbir added.

Set in the fictitious city of Kaza in the 1800s, Shamshera also stars Ashutosh Rana, Saurabh Shukla, Ronit Roy, Tridha Choudhury, and Pitobash Tripathy. The film is scheduled to release theatrically in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on 22 July 2022.
