Actor Vaibhavi Upadhyaya, known best for her role in the popular Hindi television sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, died in a car accident on May 22 in Himachal Pradesh. The news of the road accident was shared by actor, director, and producer JD Majethia on social media. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Life is so unpredictable. A very fine actress ,dear friend Vaibhavi upadhyay popularly known as“ jasmine “of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai passed away.She met with an accident in north. Family will bring her to mumbai tomorrow morning around 11 am for last rites . RIP vaibhavi 🙏 (sic)".

Investigations are underway to probe the cause of Vaibhavi's death, with reports stating that she sustained an injury to her head while making an attempt to get out of her car through the window. The popular actress was not wearing a seat belt at the time when the vehicle had gotten involved in the accident, reports further say. Speaking to the media, JD Majethia told that Vaibhavi was going to get married this December and was traveling to Himachal Pradesh when her car had fallen into a valley when she was taking a turn. Vaibhavi's fiance too was traveling in the car but survived the accident.
Vaibhavi Upadhayaya's mortal remains were cremated on Wednesday and the actor's heartbroken parents were seen crying inconsolably. The funeral proceedings saw several celebrities pay their last respects to the actor among whom included JD Majethia and Gautam Rode. Vaibhavi garnered huge popularity for her role as Jasmine, Rosesh's girlfriend, in the smash hit family comedy show, Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, which also starred Ratna Pathak Shah, Satish Shah, Rupali Ganguly, and Sumeet Raghavan. She also made appearances in films like City Lights, Chhapaak, Please Find Attached, CID, and Adaalat to name a few, while her last big screen starring role was in Timir alongside Nidhi Bisht and Anjum Rajabali.
