Leading South Indian actress Samantha's pan-Indian film titled Yashoda has cast leading Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan. The popular Mollywood star's character name in the upcoming film has been revealed to be Gautham. Filming on Yashoda began rolling a few days back and is being directed by the Hari Shankar and Hareesh Narayan duo of Ambuli fame. Unni Mukundan's addition to Yashoda is the second big casting in recent days after popular South Indian actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was announced to be a part of the film, with her character name revealed to be Madhubala. Telugu producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad is producing Yashoda under his prestigious Sridevi Movies banner, with the film coming out in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. Unni Mukundan, who made his acting debut first in Tamil in Dhanush's Seedan, also played an important role in the Anushka Shetty-starrer Bhaagamathie. Over the years, he has also garnered a huge fan following in Malayalam cinema in films like KL 10 Patthu, Style, Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya, and Mamangam, including making his debut as a lyricist and singer in the 2017 film, Achayans.

Yashoda will be a big film for Unni Mukundan as Samantha is headlining the multilingual venture, and is currently a sensation across India after her dance number 'Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava' in the Allu Arjun-starrer, Pushpa: The Rise. The upcoming film will be the next big venture for the actress after she recently wrapped up Shaakuntalam, a mythological drama based on the popular Indian play Shakuntala, by classical Sanskrit author Kalidasa.
