Athi Varadar is the wooden idol that will be lying beneath the water, which will be taken out once in every forty years at the Varadharajar Temple, Kanchipuram, for the devotees to worship. Been as a custom for years together, a hefty crowd has rushed this year to worship the idol. And joining the celebrities, politicians and famous personalities, Superstar Rajinikanth, along with his wife had paid a visit to the Varadharaja Perumal Temple, for a darshan of Athi Varadar. Reports on the internet state that Superstar Rajinikanth had visited the temple with his wife Latha and a couple of other family members around 12:30AM, today (14 August).

Apparently, he was accorded the temple honours and Rajinikanth with his family was seated facing the Athi Varadar idol to worship him. The security in the vicinity of the temple was stepped up so that the Superstar and his family could darshan at peace. The public had an opportunity to have a glimpse of Rajinikanth and energetically waved to him.

Today (14 August)  marks the 45th day of Athi Varadar darshan and usually, the idol will be kept beneath the water in the temple tank after the 48 days. But because this year the amount of crowd has increased, it has been announced that Athi Varadar's idol will be kept for darshan for 108 days in total.
