'Superstar' Rajinikanth's next big film role will be under his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth's direction and is titled Lal Salaam, blockbuster production banner Lyca Productions announced on Saturday, November 5. The upcoming film will see the iconic actor in a special appearance and marks the first occasion he will be collaborating with his elder daughter for whom it will be her fourth big directorial venture after films like 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015), and the documentary Cinema Veeran (2017). It is to be noted that the veteran actor had earlier worked with his second daughter Soundarya Rajinkanth in her 3D animated action film, Kochadaiiyaan, released in 2014. Rajinikanth's role in Lal Salaam, which will be revolving around the sport of cricket, is described to be a powerful cameo and is the third film that has the star actor and Lyca Productions joining hands after their 2.0 (2018) and Darbar (2020).

Lal Salaam, which will see Rajinikanth making an extended cameo, has Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth playing the lead roles and features music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Announced to be coming out in cinemas worldwide in 2023, the film's technical team includes names like Lyca Productions' Head of Operations G. K. M. Tamil Kumaran, followed by Vishnu Rangasamy for the cinematography, B. Praveen Bhaskar as the editor, Ramu Thangaraj in charge of the art direction department, Poornima Ramaswamy for the costume designs, while Riaz K Ahmed is the PRO and the publicity design is being done by Kabilan. As for his next big release, Rajinikanth is currently working on Jailer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar under the Sun Pictures banner. The film is the fourth time the actor is collaborating with the prestigious production banner after their Enthiran (2010), Petta (2019), and Annaatthe (2021), and the excitement has been high for the project since it was announced earlier this year. Rajinikanth was last seen in Annaatthe in 2021 and the film ended up getting mixed reviews despite turning out to be one of the biggest box-office successes of the year, and the actor will no doubt aim to hit the bullseye once again with Jailer. Nelson too will want to bounce back after his Beast with 'Thalapathy' Vijay earlier this year received a mixed response and the filmmaker will be looking to cross all the check marks as he did with his Kolamaavu Kokila and Doctor
