Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam has often described his upcoming Ponniyin Selvan: I to be his most ambitious film to date, which is gearing up for a grand worldwide theatrical release on September 30. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's acclaimed novel Ponniyin Selvan, the upcoming adaptation is coming out as a pan-Indian release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages and will feature music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners, a special glimpse from Ponniyin Selvan has now been released along with an exciting announcement. 

Madras Talkies has released a short clip from Ponniyin Selvan: 1, the first of the two installments, which gives us a glimpse of 'Chiyaan' Vikram alongside several others as warriors hoisting the flag of the Cholas. The video also carries the text, 'The Cholas are coming' as the blockbuster production house has also revealed that the week ahead will be an "adventure-filled" one for fans to look forward to. There have been wide speculations that the much-awaited Ponniyin Selvan teaser will be releasing next week and Lyca Productions' latest announcement no doubt indicates that promotions are about to kick in big time. Apart from Vikram, Ponniyin Selvan: 1 has Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles alongside a star-studded ensemble supporting cast featuring the likes of Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayachithra, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Nasser, Kishore, Nizhalgal Ravi, Riyaz Khan, Mohan Ram, Ashwin Kakamanu, Vijay Yesudas, Arjun Chidambaram, Vinodhini, Balaji Sakthivel, and Parthiban among others in pivotal roles. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I will see 'Chiyaan' Vikram portray crown prince Aditya Karikalan, followed by Karthi as the warrior prince Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, Jayam Ravi as the great Chola emperor Arulmozhi Varman (Rajaraja Chola I), Trisha as Ilaya Piratti Kundavai Pirattiyar, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini.
