Mani Ratnam directed magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. The film is produced by Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, boasts a stellar ensemble cast comprising of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R. Parthiban. The upcoming period drama film is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan.

Recently, an event was held in Chennai on July 8th to launch the film's teaser. It was a grand event where the entire cast and crew of the film got together. Everyone but one - Chiyaan Vikram. This was because Vikram was unable to attend the event as he was admitted to the hospital that very same day due to some medical condition.

With the actor recovered now and healthy as ever, the film's producers have announced that they have a special treat for their fans and audience. Taking to Twitter, they wrote, "Missed the Crown Prince at the event? We have something special for you! Ever since the release of Ponniyin Selvan: I's teaser in multiple languages, fans from all over the nation have been going wild and gaga over it. It has even piqued the interest of many as people are flocking to websites and bookstores to read Ponniyin Selvan. The teaser has managed to leave a lasting impact on its audience which is sure to last until the pan-Indian film's scheduled worldwide theatrical release on 30 September 2022.

On the technical side of things, the music is composed by renowned music director A. R. Rahman himself, with cinematography handled by Ravi Varman, editing done by A. Sreekar Prasad and production design by Thota Tharani.
