Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: 1 is continuing to create new box office records and the epic historical film has now hit the 200-crore mark in worldwide gross, Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies issued a joint statement on Monday, October 3. The audience response to the pan-Indian film has been nothing short of sensational as theatres and cinema halls across Tamil Nadu and many other parts of the country have been adding additional shows as the demand for tickets has been at an unprecedented high. PS: 1 has sped its way to 200 crores in worldwide gross in three days with the Ayudha pooja holidays driving in audiences in huge numbers as families have been thronging cinema halls everywhere. 

The first of the two installments, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, took an astounding opening for Tamil cinema with the film going on to make 80 crores in worldwide gross on day 1. The film powered by a tight and engaging screenplay by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan, and Elango Kumaravel has no doubt done wonders, with the performances of lead stars namely 'Chiyaan' Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha keeping audiences hooked to the screens along with A. R. Rahman's impressive songs and background score. With PS: 1 ending on a cliffhanger, many fans have taken to social media for the sequel, Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two's release to come out sooner than announced for summer 2023 in either May or June. 

Ponniyin Selvan stars 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan, Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini as the main cast, followed by Aishwarya Lekshmi as Poonguzhali, R. Sarathkumar as Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, Jayaram as Azhwarkadiyan Nambi, Parthiban as Chinna Pazhuvettaraiyar, while Sobhita Dhulipala has portrayed Vaanathi, with Prabhu cast as Periya Vellar Boothi Vikramakesari, Vikram Prabhu as Parthibendra Pallavan, Prakash Raj as Sundara Chola, Rahman as Madurantaka Uttama Chola, Ashwin Kakumanu as Senthan Amudhan, Nizhalgal Ravi as Kadmabur Sambuvaraiyar, Lal as Tirukoilur Malaiyaman, Vijaykumar as Vijayalaya Chola, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan as Vasuki, Vidya Subramanian as Vanavan Mahadevi, Jayachitra as Sembiyan Mahadevi, Nassar as Veerapandiyan, Kishore as Ravi Dasan, Riyaz Khan as Soman Sambhavan, Mohan Raman as Kudanthai Jothidar among others.
