Ace Tamil filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is gearing up for one of the biggest releases in Indian cinema as the epic historical action adventure film featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman will make a royal entry into theatres worldwide on April 28. Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies banners, the excitement surrounding the upcoming venture is massive, with the team now announcing the long-awaited release date of the film's trailer. On Friday, Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies shared a new poster featuring 'Chiyaan' Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in their Aditha Karikalan and Nandini avatars, and revealed that the highly-anticipated PS: 2 trailer will be released on March 29, a month before the film arrives in cinemas everywhere.

The Ponniyin Selvan: 2 trailer release date poster also gives a new glimpse of Vikram and Aishwarya Rai's characters in the film after promotions kicked off with Karthi and Trisha's characters Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai, and the team also releasing the 'Aga Naga' song, which has since turned out to be a chart-topping hit. The upcoming sequel is coming out after the spectacular success of Ponniyin Selvan: 1, which became a massive box office success, while also earning critical glory. The first installment released in 2022 went on to collect more than 500 crores during its theatrical run joining the illustrious list of nationwide highest-grossing South Indian films of all-time like Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), K. G. F: Chapter: 2, RRR (2022), 2.0 (2018), and Baahubali: The Beginning (2015).

Expectations for Ponniyin Selvan: 2 are massive after the first film featured a cliffhanger ending where the fates of Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman and Karthi's Vanthiyathevan were shrouded in mystery, with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in her second avatar as Mandakini jumping into the sea to their rescue. The sequel will also see several other actors from Ponniyin Selvan: 1 reprising their roles among whom include Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj, R.
