Pithamagan is a National Award-winning film that was directed by Bala in 2003. The film has Vikram, Surya, Sangeetha and Laila in lead roles while Karunas, Manobala, Rajendran and Ganja Karuppu have done supporting roles, with a cameo by actress Simran. It was critically acclaimed and won many awards. The production house behind the film was Evergreen Movie International. They have also produced other films. including Pithamagan, Gajendra, and the last film they produced was in 2016. The head of the production house VA Durai’s living conditions and livelihood has become bad as he is bed-ridden for five months, because of severely injured legs. Galatta Media met the producer VA Durai for an exclusive interview.
When asked why this situation had happened to him, The producer said in his shaky voice "I was not vigilant in handling the money". VA Durai said after facing loss after loss in his films the director and actors triggered him to keep investing in cinema and that has made him helpless. When asked about Pithamagan as the film won national awards. The producer said "directors and actors got awards but he did not get anything from it". When asked if he got any help from them. He said "even if I die no one will come, I know it".
Pithamagan Producer said "director Bala cheated me after getting money". When asked how much money did he give. VA Durai replied "I gave 25 lakhs". When asked if he got it back, the producer said “I fought to get the money back and even went on a hunger strike to get the money, but Bala neglected he got any advance from me and chased me out of his office." The producer revealed there is an evidence that Bala got the money from him in TMB Bank. He revealed that he also filed a petition against the well-known director through the Tamil film producers' association. Actor Surya has now come forward to help the producer.
