Pathaan became the fifth Indian film to gross ₹1000 crores in worldwide collections, said the makers of the film Yash Raj Films through Twitter on Tuesday. It's is the first Hindi Film to cross the milestone in the first phase of release. The spy thriller is the fourth installment of the YRF Spy Universe and Shah Rukh Khan has returned to the big screen in the film after a five years break since Zero. It also has stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutiosh Rana and was released in January 25. It was welcomed by fans, movie buffs and critics alike and saw good theatre occupancy rates, even on weekdays. The Siddharth Anand directorial instantly became the highest grossing Indian film of 2023 and was also also dubbed in Telugu and Tamil. Mounted on a massive budget the film grossed the ₹1000 crores milestone in 27 days revealed the production house and it included the ₹377 crore worldwide collection.

Here are all the films that have crossed the milestone before:

1. Dangal

Amir Khan starrer Dangal was the first Hindi film to cross the thousand-crore box office collection and was released initially on December 23, 2016. The movie revolves around the true story of how a father from a village in Haryana trained his two eldest daughters to become wrestlers just like him challenging the patriarchal tradition. Aamir Khan and Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Sheikh who played his daughters. Geeta and Babita, were praised for playing the role to the tee. It was the first Indian film to exceed $100 million and ₹1,000 crores overseas. After its release in China, the overseas box office collectios of the film doubled its domestic collections of $84.4 million in India.

2. Baahubali 2

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was the first Telugu language film to cross the ₹1000 crore mark and went on to become a ₹1,500 crores grosser in 2017. The film directed by famous filmmaker SS Rajamouli turned heads as the first film Baahubali 1: The Beginning created a huge expectation among fans. The film had the wide star cast that included Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj and Nasaar in lead roles. It was initially released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindu and Malayalam on 28 April 2017 and was later dubbed in Japanese, Russian and Chinese. It also set record as the highest grossing Indian film in the US.

3. RRR

RRR was the first film after the pandemic that grossed the milestone. The second Rajamouli directorial in the list and it’s was set to cover people from across India as Baahubali was already popular across India. The film had famous Telugu stars Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in lead roles with Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani in supporting roles. The was also made with a massive budget and it's collections are estimated to have crossed ₹1,217 crores with a domestic box office of ₹944 crores. The film then become international and is winning awards on International stage for the peppy Naatu Naatu song composed by MM Keeravani.

4. KGF: Chapter 2

KGF: Chapter  2 was the first Kannada language movie to cross the mark and was also released in 2022. The first part of the film became popular across India and left fans wanting to get more of Rocky Bhai. KGF: Chapter 2 exceeded the expectation of the fans with great commercial entertaining value. The period action film has Rocking Star Yash in the lead role, with Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Prakash Raj, Archana Jois, Achyuth Kumar and others in lead roles. The Prashanth Neel directorial has an estimated box officer of ₹1,198 crores.
