Star director A.R. Murugadoss next production starring Gautham Karthik, titled as August 16 1947 got the first big official announcement on the album of the film. Saregama south on their Twitter page mentioned that they are bagging the rights for the movie's album. The music of the film is composed by Sean Roldan. The Cast of the film includes Gautham Karthik plays the lead, and Revathy, a debutant, who plays the female lead, with Cooku with Comali fame Pugazh playing an important role.

N.S. Ponkumar, a former associate of A.R. Murugadoss, is debuting as a director in this film. A competent technical crew is working on the film, which will shortly have a major release. The crew also comprises the cinematographer Selvakumar SK, the editor Sudharsan R, the art director T Santhanam, the costume designer Perumal Selvam, and the makeup artist Abdul Razack in addition to the music director Sean Roldan. After having previously produced movies like Engaeyum Eppothum (2011), Vathikuchi (2013), Raja Rani (2013), Maan Karate (2014), and 10 Endrathukulla(2015), August 16 1947 is AR Murugadoss' sixth producing venture. A. R. Murugadoss hasn't yet revealed his next project as a filmmaker, although there have been rumors that he's been working on a fantasy-themed script in the past; an official confirmation is still pending.
The trailer of the film was released on the last Independence day and got a huge response eventually. The plot of the film seems to be based on the Indian freedom struggle. Before the film's lead Gautham Karthik is introduced as one of the villagers who is captivated by debutant actress Revathy, the trailer includes sequences like Pugazh to an elderly guy telling how Mahatma Gandhi has been fighting the British government a tough struggle. Then, numerous scenes from the movie are shown, in which Gautham Karthik is seen defending his village while the villagers are faced with brutal retaliation for their resistance to the British.
