2021 has been a year filled with a mixed bag of emotions as several Tamil film industry celebrities and personalities have either passed away or lost their near and beloved ones. As the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of millions around the world, with governments urging their citizens to get vaccinated against the infection, there have also been many notable names in Tamil cinema who have suffered losses either due to the disease or other health reasons. On late Sunday evening, popular Tamil film actress Nandita Swetha announced the sad news of her father, Mr. Shivaswamy passing away, with many in the industry expressing their condolences. 

Taking to Twitter, Nandita Swetha informed that her father had passed away at the age of 54. She wrote, "This is to inform all my wellwishers that My father Mr.Shivaswamy aged 54 passed away today. May his soul rest in peace." Soon after Nandita’s tweet, several celebrities in the Tamil film industry namely Aishwarya Rajesh, director Seenu Ramasamy, Janani and Bigg Boss 3 fame Sanam Shetty, expressed their condolences and paid their tributes to the actress’ father. Nandita Swetha has garnered a big fan following over the years with her performances starting with Attakathi opposite Dinesh, which was incidentally Pa. Ranjith’s directorial debut. She also impressed fans in several other hit films like Sivakarthikeyan’s Ethir Neechal, ‘Makkal Selvan’ Vijay Sethupathi’s Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Vishnu Vishal’s Mundaasupatti, while also starring in ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s Puli. In 2021, Nandita made appearances in films like Silambarasan TR’s Eeswaran, Sibiraj’s Kabadadaari and director Selvaraghavan’s Nenjam Marappathillai, which had her share screen space alongside SJ Suryah and Regina Cassandra.
