The rural drama Maamanithan which is written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy and produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja under his YSR Productions banner, was released on 24 June 2022. The long-delayed film which has been awaiting release for nearly 4 years now has finally hit the big screens. In addition to this, Yuvan also composed the soundtrack of this film along with his father, the maestro Ilaiyaraaja. The cinematography and editing were handled by M. Sukumar and A. Sreekar Prasad, respectively.

The film starring Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, and Shaji Chen opened to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. Maamanithan has also managed to grab the attention of many famous personalities. One of them is director Mysskin who has hailed Seenu Ramasamy for the idea of making a unique film amidst masala and commercial films and is succeeding with it. Mysskin was not the only one who was impressed by the film. Actor-director Bharathiraja and Superstar Rajinikanth also had high praise for the film and its director upon watching it. They too expressed their opinions on the film. Renowned filmmaker Shankar was also hugely impressed by the relationship drama. So much so that he too took to his Twitter handle to share the fact that Maamanithan gave him the satisfaction of having watched a good film. Stating that Seenu Ramasamy has delivered a "realistic classic", he was all praise for Vijay Sethupathi's performance in the film, expressing that the actor deserves a National Award for his brilliant performance. He also praised the music of the film, which is jointly composed by the father-son duo of Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja.
