Murali's body cremated with full state honours

The body of popular Malayalam-Tamil actor Murali, who died last night, was cremated with full state honours on the banks of Karamana river at Aruvikkara near Thiruvananthapuram on Friday evening. The actor's nephew Deepu lit the funeral pyre.

Thousands of people from different walks of life paid their last respects to the versatile actor. A host of dignitaries, including Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, cabinet ministers, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy and many others paid tributes to the departed soul.

On early Friday morning, the body was taken to his ancestral home at Kudavattoor near Kottarakkara in Kollam and was kept at the LP School for the public to pay their last respects. Later, it was brought back to the capital by noon and kept at the University Senate Hall, Thiruvananthapuram, where film actors, directors and hundreds of his fans paid homage to the late actor.

Murali, 55, had acted in around 200 films in his 30-year career. He was awarded the National award for his role�(Bharath) for the best actor in 2001 for his performance in Neythukaaran (Weaver) and�four State awards for acting.
