The long-awaited Hindi remake of the hit 2017 Tamil film, Maanagaram, titled Mumbaikar, will begin streaming for free on Jio Cinema from June 2. The hyperlink thriller film directed by acclaimed cinematographer-filmmaker Santosh Sivan stars Vikrant Massey as the lead and will see Tamil superstar 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi playing the role of Munishkanth from the Tamil version, with Tanya Maniktala, Ranvir Shorey, Sachin Khedekar, Sanjay Mishra, Hridhu Haroon, among others appearing in key roles in a story revolving around how the lives of four people get intertwined in Mumbai city.

Jio Cinema on Thursday released the first big action-packed Mumbaikar teaser, which is extensively focused on Vijay Sethupathi's character. Tamil cinema audiences who have watched Maanagaram will be looking to witness the National Award-winning actor's portrayal of Munishkanth's role, who was a standout in the 2017 original, which also marked the filmmaking debut of Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently one of the biggest and most sought after names in Tamil cinema after delivering blockbuster hits like Kaithi (2019), Master (2021), and Vikram (2022). The Mumbaikar teaser gives viewers a glimpse of Vijay Sethupathi in the midst of the chaos alongside the other characters in the film. 

A description provided by Jio Cinema states that "Mumbaikar chronicles the journey of the key characters whose lives suddenly converge across multiple events that take place during a 24-hour period and subsequently change the characters’ perspectives towards the city and life itself. With its compelling narrative, the movie promises to take audiences on an exciting journey and witness the lesser-known sides of India’s city of dreams." Produced by HR Pictures, Mumbaikar was initially announced to be Vijay Sethupathi's entry in Bollywood, but had subsequently gotten delayed, with the actor's appearance as a Special Task Force officer in the smash hit black comedy crime thriller web series, Farzi, on Amazon Prime Video turning out to be his Hindi debut.
