Mollywood: New Year releases
Truly, this Christmas season was a big disappointment for all filmgoers in Kerala. Firstly, we did not have any superstar movies released during Christmas. Secondly, there were only two big movies in the season: Prithviraj's Lollipop and Dileep's Crazy Gopalan, which both miserably failed to met the expectations of the festival season! In fact, three superstar films (Red Chillies, Vande Mataram and Love in Singapore) were initially planned as Christmas releases, but were all postponed to January 2009 at the last minute. Now,�passionate moviegoers in Kerala currently have no�option except to just wait for January 2009, a month of six big banner films releasing.
Mammootty's Love in Singapore, Mohanlal's Red Chillies, Raj Babu's Dileep starrer Colours, Jayaram's Samasathakeralam P.O., Suresh Gopi's comedy flick Hailesa and V.M. Vinu Sreenivasan’s Makante Achan are the six major films scheduled to grace theatres in January 2009.
Produced by MHM films, Love In Singapore presents Mammootty as 'Aakry Machu', a man who rose to financial heights after starting his life as a scrap dealer. Tamil and Telugu actor Navneet Kaur is the heroine. Also in the cast are Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salimkumar, Harishree Ashokan, Rajan P. Dev, Lalu Alex and Nedumudi Venu. Love In Singapore is expected to hit�theatres by the last week of January.
Red Chillies, directed by Shaji Kailas, is the first release by superstar Mohanlal in 2009. Produced by Ranjith under the banner of Rajaputhra Movies, Red Chillies is a murder mystery revolving around a gang of nine Radio Jockeys working with FM 919.1. Mohanlal's character is named Omar, an NRI businessman settled in the Gulf and running this radio station in Kerala. The film will feature a gang of girls who appear as Radio Jockeys.
Dileep is back again with another full-fledged comedy entertainer Colours, which will feature him as a blind man.�This is the second time Dileep�enacts the role of�a blind person.�Chess was the first movie in which je played a blind man seeking revenge against a group of policemen. Scripted by V.C. Ashok, Colours is produced by Aroma, one of the oldest production houses in Malayalam. Vinu Mohan�plays an important role in the film. Roma is the heroine.
After the super success of Veruthe Oru Bharya, script writer K. Gireeshkumar once again teams up with Jayaram in Samasthakerlam P.O., directed by Bibin Prabhakar. The film is produced by Howley Pottoore under the banner of Dream Team Productions. Debutante Serah is the heroine.
Director Thaha's Hailesa, starring action hero Suresh Gopi in the lead, is an action based comedy thriller, produced by Jagatheesh Chandran under the banner of Kichu films. This is the second time in his career that Suresh Gopi teams up with Thaha. (The first was�Thaha's debut venture Varnam.) Hailesa also has Vijayaraghavan, Cochin Haneefa, Bheeman Raghu, Salim Kumar, Biju Kuttan, Kalasala Babu, Narayanan Kutty and Jaffer Idukki in major roles.
Director V.M. Vinu's Makante Achan, a prestigious production of Seven Arts after their recent Rajinikanth movie Kuselan, is a family entertainer which revolves around a nuclear family consisting of a Village Officer Viswanathan (Sreenivasan), his wife Hema (Suhasini) and their only son Manu (Vineeth Sreenivasan). The movie is planned as a lighthearted comedy with some family sentiments.
