Veteran Malayalam actress K. P. A. C. Lalitha has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for liver ailments in a Kochi private hospital. Reports say she has been receiving treatment in the ICU after being hospitalized nearly 10 days ago. Initially, the 74-year-old actress was hospitalised in Thrissur before being shifted to Kochi's Aster Medcity on Sunday for advanced treatment and is currently doing better. According to Kerala Kaumudi, Lalitha was unconscious earlier, but has since recovered. Edavela Babu, Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, told mediapersons that the popular actress had not been keeping well of late. "She is now admitted to a hospital at Kochi and today her condition is better. She is diabetic and has a liver complaint also. Her daughter has now come from Pune and is with her," Babu stated. It is being said that she will have to undergo a liver transplant and a final decision regarding the surgery will be made after taking into consideration her age and health. 

K. P. A. C. Lalitha has been a prolific name in Malayalam cinema for more than 5 decades and has won several accolades for her performances in memorable films. Having won the National Film Awards twice for Best Supporting Actress in 1991 and 2001, she is also the chairperson of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi. She has starred alongside Malayalam superstars in her glorious career and is a four-time Kerala State Film award winner in 1975, 1978, 1990 and 1991. Lalitha is the wife of legendary director Bharathan (Thevar Magan), who passed away in 1998. She is a popular name among Tamil cinema fans as well and has two children - son Sidharth and daughter Sreekutty. Sidharth took to Facebook to inform fans about his mother's health and wrote, "Amma is fine and recuperating well. No need to panic. Thank you all for the love, concern and prayers."
