Blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is gearing up for a huge worldwide theatrical release on April 28 and preparations are underway for the film's promotions up next. The upcoming film produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies and featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman is the sequel to the 2022 box office money-spinner, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, which went on to collect more than 500 crores during its theatrical run and subsequently joined the likes of other nationwide hit films like Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), K. G. F: Chapter: 2, RRR (2022), 2.0 (2018), and Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). With fans waiting to see how Ponniyin Selvan: 2 picks up after the events of the first film, the makers have now released a special featurette revolving around Karthi's portrayal of Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, the Prince of the Vaanar clan, and the extensive process the team had undertaken to get his look right, while also giving the audience a glimpse from the 'Aga Naga' song featured on him and Trisha, who is portraying Kundavai, the Princess of the Chola Empire.
In the latest Ponniyin Selvan: 2 promo, we see Karthi opening up about the process to attain the look of a warrior for his character. The actor says, "When I wear that costume, when I get to the location... And to complete a scene, that scene provides me the grounding I need." The video then shows a look test of Karthi wearing different warrior attire for his role as Vanthiyathevan, with costume makers also seen hard at work working from scratch for his character. The video shows several key moments from Ponniyin Selvan: 1 before eventually ending with a small glimpse of the highly-anticipated PS 2 second single 'Aga Naga' song, which is set to be released on March 20 at 6 p.m.
Ponniyin Selvan: 2 will see Karthi and Trisha appearing alongside the film's other lead stars 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will be reprising her dual roles - Nandini and Mandakini. The film also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj, R. Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Jayaram, Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Rahman, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Jayachitra, Vidya Subramanian, Mohan Raman, and Riyaz Khan returing in their original roles from PS: 1 released last year.
