Galatta Media left the nation talking last month after conducting the biggest digital media awards ceremony, The Galatta Crown 2022, on May 8, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The grand event witnessed leading names in Indian cinema grace the evening among whom included Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh, followed by big names in the Tamil film industry stars like Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, Keerthy Suresh, Anirudh Ravichander, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Nelson Dilipkumar, Priyanka Mohan, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Pa Ranjith, SJ Suryah, Venkat Prabhu, Krithi Shetty to name a notable few, who delighted fans with their presence.

The Galatta Crown 2022 saw several names from the Tamil film industry bag awards and also featured the coveted 'Favourite Director' award for the year 2020-2021, which was bagged by none other than blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj for Master. The 'Thalapathy' Vijay-starrer turned out to be a box office juggernaut reviving the theatre business and also the Tamil film industry after they took a big hit due to the pandemic lockdown in 2020. Master, which was released as a grand Pongal treat in 2021, came across all odds and became a money-spinner at the box office and thus cementing a successful collaboration for Vijay with Lokesh Kanagaraj as it was their first time working together.

Speaking at The Galatta Crown 2022, Lokesh Kanagaraj said in his victory speech, "This is the first award for Master. The film is special to me as it played an instrumental role in bringing audiences to theatres after the COVID-19 pandemic and I thank fans for their support. I also want to thank Vijay anna, Vijay Sethupathi anna, producers Xavier Britto sir, Lalith Kumar sir, and Jagadish, and obviously composer Anirudh Ravichander, including the entire team and my direction team. I accept this award on their behalf." Upon being asked about Vikram, Lokesh said, "It was surreal directing Kamal Haasan sir and every day was a learning experience." When queried about directing Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil together in Vikram, the Kaithi director revealed, "It was a healthy competition as all three of them asked many questions when it comes to the development of a scene. After the first two days of shooting, they too began enjoying the process." Lokesh was also asked about the reason for the inclusion of jails as a plot point in his films, with the director in his quick-witted reply revealing that he doesn't want to go to prison, which left the audiences in splits.
