Blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj left everyone speechless by dropping the first major hints of uniting characters like Dilli (Karthi) from Kaithi and Vikram (Kamal Haasan) and Rolex (Suriya) in Vikram together in the same world and thus setting the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) earlier this year, which has since raised massive interest among fans. All set to begin production work on his next big film, the highly-anticipated Thalapathy 67 with superstar Vijay, the hit director recently opened up on the possibilities and the future of the LCU at the Galatta Plus The Tamil Cinema Roundtable 2022 alongside some of Tamil cinema's biggest names among whom included directors Gautham Menon, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Vignesh Shivan, Halitha Shameem, and producer Archana Kalpathi, with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, serving as the host.

Speaking about how he comes across fan art for the LCU on social media, Lokesh Kanagaraj said during the Galatta Plus The Tamil Cinema Roundtable 2022 session, "I haven't been on social media for nearly six months, but my assistant directors will send me whatever they come across. If I want to do a design for the LCU, I'll have to take fan-made artwork for reference as there is so much curiosity. The place I have gotten now is big. I did everything with a lot of sincerity and honesty so that people will accept it. And, I'm going to continue doing it. Once I think I cannot do much more, I'll take my leave then."

Upon being queried about doing the non-LCU films, Lokesh Kanagaraj goes on to say, "I can, but an end is needed for this universe." Regarding each of the new characters getting a big space like Suriya's Rolex in Vikram, the blockbuster director added, "We're doing that since we feel it's exciting, but as there are so many followers now, it becomes a challenge to create a path for them." Lokesh Kanagaraj further stated, "It all comes down to whichever character gets more exciting. If characters like Rolex, Vikram, and Dilli are getting their space, we can also do a small-budget film with Napoleon (George Maryan) in Kaithi. That excitement is making this bigger and in turn, makes it a challenge. Once you've finished writing and when you begin to think about how a certain character's journey will be, it is at that juncture a lot of effort is required."
