Engineering is easily one of the most-chosen discipline in colleges in India for a while now making our nation equipped with quite a lot of engineers in numbers. Tamil filmmakers have never shied away from showing this and have portrayed the lives of engineers in their movies countless times. Therefore, with today (September 15) being Engineers Day, let us take a look at some of the most memorable movies that showcases engineers.

1) MINNALE:

In this Gautham Vasudev Menon debut film, we are introduced to rivals Rajesh (Madhavan) and Sam (Abbas) in an engineering college in Ooty who desire the same girl Reena Joseph (Reema Sen) many years later. 

2) DON:

The film revolves around a reluctant engineering student Don (Sivakarthikeyan) who repeatedly clashes with his college's discipline mentor Bhoominathan (S. J. Suryah), while still trying to discover his passion in life and prove his eligibility to his father.

3) KANDUKONDAIN KANDUKONDAIN:

In this Rajiv Menon multi-starrer romantic drama film, Sowmya (Tabu) upon moving to Chennai is forced to take up the job of a receptionist to feed her family despite being qualified for a software engineer's role. She later show her prowess and becomes a valuable team member and also gets an offsite opportunity. 

4) NANBAN:

Two friends, Sevarkodi Senthil (Jiiva) and Venkat Ramakrishnan (Srikanth), set out to find a third friend Panchavan Pariventhan / Kosaksi Pasapugazh (Vijay) who they met at their time in an engineering college, who taught them how to be more than just victims of circumstances. During the journey, they look back on their memories that they shared with one another in the engineering college.

5) VELLAIILLA PATTADHARI:

The film focuses on Raghuvaran (Dhanush), an educated yet unemployed engineer graduate for four years, and how he gets a job, whilst successfully overcoming various obstacles before and after finding employment.

6) VAARNAM AARIYAM:

In this film we see Suriya (Suriya) team up with his friends for a mechanical engineering project before leaving for San Francisco, California, USA. 

7) VINNAITHAANDI VARUVAAYAA:

The film follows the life of Karthik (Silambarasan TR), a mechanical engineering graduate / aspiring filmmaker, falls in love with Jessie (Trisha), a Malayalee Christian from a traditional family.

8) MEESAYA MURUKKU:

The film follows Adhi (Hip-hop Tamizha), an electrical engineer / aspiring musician, who falls in love with Nila (Aathmika), a young woman in his college. He soon finds himself surrounded by several challenges as he tries to pursue his dreams.

9) IVAN THANTHIRAM:

The film tells the story of two engineering college dropouts and best friends, Sakthi (Gautham Karthik) and Balaji (RJ Balaji), who expose the illegal activities of Devaraj (Super Subbarayan), a corrupt minister. After the suicide of a student, the duo use technology to seek revenge.

10) ULLAM KETKUMAE:  

The film tells the reunion of five friends Shyaam (Shaam), Emaan (Arya), Pooja (Laila), Priya (Asin Thottumkal), and Irene (Pooja Umashankar) who meet at Emaan's wedding years after everyone has parted ways. They begin to reminisce and explore their they shared with one another relationships during the years. 

11) LINGAA:

In this film, Raja Lingeshwaran (Rajinikanth) is an IAS officer who has done civil engineering. It is with this qualification that Raja Lingeshwaran embarks on a personal project which is to build a dam for the benefit of the people of Solaiyur  which could potentially lead to his downfall.
 
12) ALAI PAYUTHEY:  

The film follows Karthik Varadarajan (R. Madhavan), an independent and free-spirited software engineering graduate from a wealthy family who owns a startup along with his friends, pursue Shakthi Selvaraj (Shalini), a medical student from a middle-class family, who marry against the wishes of their families and start their new life. However, they soon realise that marriage is not the bed of roses they had imagined it would be.

13) KADHALUM KADANDHU POGUM:

The film features Yazhini Bakthirajan (Madonna Sebastian), a young engineering graduate from Villupuram who leaves for Chennai against her parents' wishes to pursue a career in the IT sector. 

14) NEETHANE EN PONVASANTHAM:

The film follows Varun (Jiiva), an engineering graduate, who meets his childhood crush Nithya Vasudevan (Samantha Ruth Prabhu). They two dated back during their school days but later split which prompts Varun to try his best to win her back.

15) PORIYAALAN:

This Manimaran directorial, tells us that the story is about an engineer right from the name of the title itself as poriyaalan is the Tamil word for engineer. The film follows civil engineer Saravanan (Harish Kalyan) who raises funds to buy land and start his own construction firm. But when he soon realizes that the title is not in his name which leads him into a situation where he might have to save himself from a gangster after being cheated by the absconding broker who sold the land.

16) URIYADI:

The film talks about how a group of impressionable and aggressive final year engineering students in a college in the outskirts of Trichy, Vijay Kumar (Lenin Vijay), Suresh (Chandru Kumar), Akhil (Jeyakanth Velu) and Karthi, who get dragged into trouble and how a small problem develops into a serious issue due to a politician who is in search of his glory.

17) SANDAKOZHI:

The film tells the story of Balu (Vishal), an engineering student, who has a fight with the local thug, Kasi (Lal) when he visits his friend Karthik (Raja). A furious Kasi follows Balu back to his native place and unwittingly learns that he belongs to an influential family.

18) INIDHU INIDHU:

A group of new students in a prestigious engineering college form a close friendship after being teased by their seniors. As time goes by, many of them form romantic feelings for each other.

19) UNNALE UNNALE:

The film follows Karthik (Vinay Rai), a civil engineer from Chennai, who meets Deepika (Tanishaa Mukerji) during a flight to Melbourne. They instantly hit it off and become friends. When they reach Australia, Karthik realizes that Deepika works for the same firm as his ex-lover, Jhansi (Sadha). An awkward love triangle thus forms.

20) PAIYAA:

The film features Shiva (Karthi), an unemployed engineering graduate, who is not serious about his job or future even when his friends advise him about life. He falls in love with Charulatha (Tamannaah) whom he sees at a bus stop. However, when on Charulatha's request, he drives her to Mumbai, the two are chased down by two different gangs for their own different reasons.
