1) ALL IN ALL AZHAGU RAJA vs. ARRAMBAM and PANDIYA NAADU:
This romantic comedy film written and directed by M. Rajesh starring Karthi and Kajal Aggarwal hit the screens back in Diwali of 2013. It opened to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike and performed averagely at the box office.
During the same occasion, two other films were also released: Arrambam and Pandiya Naadu. The former, starring Ajith Kumar, Taapsee and Lady Superstar Nayanthara, opened to positive reviews. The latter, starring Vishal and Lakshmi Menon, also garnered positive reviews and emerged as the dark horse of the Diwali race.
2) KAASHMORA vs. KODI:
This period masala film written and directed by Gokul starring Karthi in dual roles alongside Lady Superstar Nayanthara was released theatrically worldwide during Diwali of 2016. It opened to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike and did not see the light of day for long.
The film hit the screens alongside Kodi starring Dhanush in a dual role and Trisha. The political action drama did not gain much traction either and too received mixed reviews from the public. One thing to be noted is that both actors play a dual role, both films were released on Diwali and gained mixed reviews.
3) KAITHI vs. BIGIL:
This action thriller film written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj opened to rave reviews during Diwali of 2019. The film completely took over and became a box-office success following its successful opening. It garnered great appreciation for the cast's performances, direction, writing, action sequences and exclusion of songs and other factors that are a part of mainstream Tamil cinema.
The film went head on against Bigil starring Thalapathy Vijay in dual roles and Lady Superstar Nayanthara. Both films performed equally well at the box office and was showered with immense love and heaps of praise from film critics and movie goers.
4) SARDAR vs. PRINCE:
The upcoming action-spy thriller film written and directed by P. S. Mithran will feature Karthi in a dual role. It is all set for a theatrical release this Diwali on October 21. The trailer of the film dropped just recently and it looks like a roller coaster ride of awesomeness. So all we can do is wait until we get to feast our eyes on this flick.
On the very same day, Sivakarthikeyan and Maria Riaboshapka starrer Prince written and directed by KV Anudeep will also hit the screens. Prince also has a lot of buzz and hype going around it. It will be interesting to see both film duke it out at the box office and see which one will finally come out on top from the rubble after their clash.
It is interesting to see the amount of Diwali releases Karthi has gotten over the course of his 18 year career. While some have sunk while some have knocked it out of the park, Karthi continues to only move forwards to the next film and he has found great virtue and success in it. We wish him many more years of good luck and many more festive releases in the foreseeable future.
